PuraM® Membrane Bioreactor for Wastewater Treatment at www.bnm-us.com

Bord na Mona Environmental Products U.S. Inc. today announced the installation of a PuraM® Membrane Bioreactor wastewater treatment system at the Laurel Cove Golf & Country Club, a new 1000 acre country club and residential community under development in College Grove, Tennessee.

According to Shane Keaney, President of Bord na Mona Environmental Products U.S. Inc., the company was awarded the $1-million contract by Tennessee based Adenus Technologies in October 2007. The installation was completed in April 2008. The plant was designed to treat a Phase One flow of 250,000 GPD and to achieve a final effluent quality of 10mg/l BOD : 20mg/l TSS : 10mg/l TN. What’s more, the design allows the final effluent to be used as a supply for irrigation water on the development’s Greg Norman designed golf course.

“We are very pleased to have been selected by Adenus Technologies for this high profile mixed use development,” Keaney said today. “The wastewater treatment system we have installed at Laurel Cove incorporates the Bord na Mona enhanced air scour flat plate cassette design, that reduces complexity, and operational input, a significant benefit for decentralized treatment works. The PuraM system installed at Laurel Cove treats wastewater to reuse standards and can be used for irrigation of the golf course. The design allows for phasing that can expand the capacity of the works to meet the future needs of this dynamic new community.”

According to Glenn Marcum, of Adenus Technologies, “As the provider of complete turnkey solutions, Adenus needs treatment solutions that provide value. Bord na Mona delivered that value with their new PuraM Membrane Bioreactor, pre-engineered system solution.”

The PuraM wastewater plant is comprised of two treatment streams each designed to handle up to 125,000 GPD. Each stream has an anoxic/equalization tank and PuraM Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) tank. The system includes 18 flat plate PuraM membrane cassettes. “Consideration was made in the design to allow for complete ease of upgrading the system in future phases for flows up to 1,000,000 GPD,” Keaney explained. “The anoxic/equalization tanks were designed to permit future conversion into PuraM MBR tanks.”

About the PuraM Membrane Bioreactor System:
While the Laurel Cove development marks the first U.S. installation of a PuraM treatment system, similar PuraM systems are already in place in Europe, where Bord na Móna’s parent company is headquartered. PuraM is a pre-engineered wastewater solution that achieves high quality effluent within a greatly reduced overall footprint. The PuraM MBR is engineered specifically for the decentralized municipal, community and commercial wastewater treatment market with an emphasis on reliability, reduced operational input, ease of maintenance and less complexity than comparable systems.

PuraM is based on flat plate ultra-filtration membrane technology assembled into stainless steel membrane cassettes. The cassette consists of a unique integral dedicated air diffuser assembly that eliminates the need for back-pulsing or frequent chemical cleaning. The system does not require permeate pumps or any site installed chemical dosing system while achieving a typical time between recovery cleans of approximately 12 months, significantly better than comparable systems.

About Laurel Cove Golf & Country Club:
The 1,000 acre Laurel Cove Golf & Country Club is being developed into the foremost golf and residential community in middle Tennessee. Featuring a stunning Greg Norman designed Signature Golf Course, the 800+ lot development will offer all of the modern amenities of a premier country club while intertwining the deep architectural traditions of the Southern lifestyle. The course is scheduled to open in Spring 2009.
